In the majority of modern games that require the use of these buttons to target or shoot a weapon, R2 buttons are known as trigger buttons.

The R2 button is pressed to fire in these games according to the standard convention. While this varies every game, you will find that this is a fairly common shooter control mechanism.

What are the common reasons your PS4 R2 button is not responding?

The R2 button can be damaged for various reasons. If you don’t take proper care of your controller, you’re more likely to face problems with the R2 button.

Mishandling the controller, for example, can cause internal damage. Holding it with sweaty hands could also damage it as sweat can go inside the buttons and cause issues to them!

Some people eat while playing games and holding the controller with sticky hands, this could also be a problem that can cause issues with the buttons.

To ensure that the buttons last a long time, keep the controller in its proper place and use it with clean hands and low holding pressure.

Other reasons why the R2 button is not responding are that the plunger on the inside of the button may be cracked, the button switch may be loose, or the button switch may be dirty or damaged.

These can be found beneath the controls and the digital sensor.

Choose the pads based on the PS4 generation

You might think there is just one sort of PS4 controller, but there are several, and only certain PS4 controllers work with them.

There are five generations of PS4 controllers, each with minor differences.

V1 and V2 are the most common PS4 controllers. The new controller generation has been released to improve the quality of the trigger buttons.

The CUH-ZCT1 model series is used by the older generation, whereas the CUH-ZCT21 is used by the new generation. This series usually includes three different controller variants.
